Brass Line

MATHIEU HAREL:  
  Né à Contrecoeur, Mathieu Harel a d'abord étudié au Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, pour ensuite parfaire ses études au Curtis Institute de Philadelphie. Il s'est ensuite joint à l'Orchestre symphonique de Québec à titre de deuxième basson et au Grant Park Music Festival Orchestra comme premier basson associé/deuxième basson. Depuis plus de cinq ans, M. Harel occupe le poste de premier basson associé avec l'Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
  M. Harel est aussi professeur de basson à l'Université McGill à Montréal et au Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.

GERALD COREY:  
  Gerald Corey, retired principal bassoon of the National Arts Centre Orchestra, one of the three founders of the International Double Reed Society, founder and editor of the newsletter "To The World's Bassoonists" and editor of IDRS Bassoon publication articles in the Double Reed and Journal of the IDRS, became an Honorary Member of the IDRS in June, 2005. He has taught at Department of Music, University of Ottawa for 32 years and at Quebec Conservatoire in Montreal for 10 years.
  Gerald Corey has given master classes in Canada, the United States, Germany, Costa Rica, Brazil and Japan and has been a member of juries for international competitions in Switzerland, France and Germany, as well as for the Fernand Gilet Competitions of the IDRS.
  Gerald Corey His bassoon reed making videotape "Gerald Corey Explains the Knochenhauer Parallel Trim Bassoon Reed" has sold over 1000 copies worldwide.
  Mr. Corey's new book "Bassoon Trills, Shakes and Skills from my Symphony Career" is now available.

Brass Line

JOANN SIMPSON:  
  Ottawa native, bassoonist JoAnn Simpson has worked as principal bassoon of the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Caracas, Venezuela and has worked with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Montreal Symphony, the Quebec Symphony and BBC London. She has appeared as soloist with the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Caracas and the Maracaibo Symphony, Venezuela; the Municipal Symphony of Montevideo, Uruguay, L'Orchestre de Chambre de Hull Quebec, Quebec and the 13 Strings of Ottawa. She has been recorded in recital and chamber music on numerous occasions by CBC Radio and Radio Canada. Presently Jo Ann Simpson is professor of bassoon at the Conservatoire de Gatineau, Quebec and The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam New York. Jo Ann maintains a private bassoon studio and freelances in Ottawa/Gatineau.
